Prosthodontics

Prosthetic restorations (dentures etc.) are a common solution in dentistry to problems such as a weakening of the tooth structure and partial or total loss of teeth. Thanks to their application, the correct chewing function and speech are restored and facial aesthetics improved, which significantly helps in regaining self-confidence.

Although the dentures are made individually for each and every one of our patients, patients can for some time experience discomfort while using them. This is a natural reaction, every prosthetic device – even the smallest – is perceived by our mind as a foreign object, even though it is used for the rehabilitation and improvement of the masticatory function. The oral cavity is adjacent to a number of important organs, which means that every change within it is immediately recorded by the nervous system. This responds appropriately but not always positively. After some time, however, our body gets used to the dentures and the uncomfortable feeling disappears – it adapts.

Adapting to dentures requires time and patience, failures should not discourage, because the effort put into the process of adaptation surely is worthwhile. With systematic implementation of exercises to improve facial muscle functions while using dentures, patients can much faster start to smile and speak freely again as well as regain confidence. The result is certainly worth the time spent. Moreover, thanks to proper chewing function, the health of the whole of the digestive system can be well maintained.
